And we are not talking about Norfolk…

Last month, Brenda Hudson shared her notes from the Isle of Skye.

One thinks of moths as being rather drab insects and connects them with eating carpets but a Scarlet Tiger moth was seen on a shrub near Crown Corner and when the wings are slightly open, it displayed its scarlet colour. Perhaps it had been getting nectar from one of the colourful planters outside the terraced houses opposite. The neighbours in a house in Mary Day Close heard a scratching in amongst the plants in their garden and later discovered a pheasant had laid three eggs there but was not sitting on them at the time. Was this just a young one experimenting? We await developments.
I am now up in the Isle of Skye and we have found the contrast in the landscape amazing. Everything is so green and lush and we have had rain nearly every other day. We wish we could send some of it back to Suffolk. It might have prevented the wild fire on Dunwich Heath although this seems to be under control. On some of the sunny days the whole landscape is beautiful and the visibility across the sea is more than fifty miles. however large numbers of visitors are coming to look at the scenery and this causes problems on single track roads when many visitors are in camper vans. In our garden we have a similar selection of birds visiting. Great tits, Blue tits, a Robin and Hedge sparrow. While two young Thrushes hop around among the bushes .There are a number of Hooded Crows noisily flapping around the trees. It is a pleasure to sit outside in the sunshine as long as there is a slight breeze as the notorious midges can otherwise make gardening a good deal less pleasant. A young Red deer was grazing out on the hill behind our house. Not so many of these in Suffolk.
We watched for the eclipse last night but the sky was very overcast and although it became rather gloomy it was not spectacular.
Back to the parched south in a few days time.
