Congratulations to everyone in the Coddenham community and beyond, who came together to celebrate H.M. the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, with the Big Lunch at The Coddenham Centre on Sunday 5th June.

Over 250 people were catered for with Suffolk Pork, vegetarian options, cake and strawberries plus entertainment from the Co-Op Brass, the Six Village Band and the hilarious Banana Ukulele Band.

A special exhibition, ‘The Way We Were’ was organised by the Coddenham History Club, looking back on a rich history of Jubilee and coronation celebrations in the Parish.

A commemorative tree was enthusiastically planted by the children of Coddenham, a Craft Table manufactured ‘royal crowns’ and the afternoon ended with an Act of Thanksgiving for the reign of Her Majesty, led by the Reverend Helen Norris.

The event was led in conjunction with all members of the Coddenham Community Response Group,  the Centrethe Community Shop, the Day Foundation, the Gardemau Trusts,  the History Club, St Mary’s Church and the Parish Council. Lunch was sponsored by the Day Foundation with Mid Suffolk District Council, plus contributions by the Gardemau Trusts and Bickers Action. The latter kindly supporting a commemorative mug for every child. Both the Day Foundation and the Gardemau Trusts also sponsored an inaugural beacon lighting event on Thursday 2nd June, which was repeated on Sunday.

With approximately £1500 in takings and donations, all proceeds after costs and sponsorship, will go to future Coddenham community activities led by the CCRG.

A huge thanks must go to all the volunteers who contributed, the Coddenham Centre Trustees, Gail and the team, the Country Club with the bar, the cake cooks, the PC commemorative tree, the tents’ team and everyone involved over the past eight months of preparation.

Don’t forget the Jubilee Year, Photo Competition which will produce a 2023 calendar to look back and remember a momentous year of celebration of the community, together.
